For short breaks or one night stays, we can offer a rough price of £50.00 per night per room, £100.00 for two rooms or £150.00 for the whole house per night, with a minimum hire fee of £300.00 for any one booking, plus £100.00 refundable security deposit.

Linen, Laundry & Provisions:

Duvets, pillows & quilts, clean bed-linen, one towel per person, toilet roll & cleaning materials are all supplied. The house is cleaned before & after you visit, & the bed linen is washed & changed, but please remove your dirty linen & leave it next to your bed, as the house is self-catering.

Kitchen:

The following basics are included – tea/coffee/sugar & cooking oils/herbs etc. Please replace anything you finish. There are various cookery books & cooking and baking equipment. For foodies, there is a fantastic farm shop at Harts Barn, next to the cookery school, on the edge of the village.  Or the Bodega at Taurus Crafts or the Wye Smokery at Westbury.

There are also plenty of baking things and children’s cookery books and cookie cutters, for poor weather fun with kids, and picnic sets for using to eat outside or for picnics locally.

Toiletries:

We are proud to offer locally hand made toiletries and skin care products from Mitcheldean soaps, in our house.

Central Heating & Hot Water:

Your first £10.00 is supplied on the electric meter for your stay. The house seems to use about £1.00 a day. Gas central heating is also on a meter.  Again, we reckon on £2.00 a day. Anything massively over either of these will be deducted from your security deposit – incoming and outgoing readings are taken of both meters.

Hoover and Brushes etc:

Hoover and brushes are in the walk in kitchen cupboard. All cleaning materials are under the sink in the kitchen.

Washing Machine:

There is a clothes line outside for fair weather drying, & a clothes pulley from a roof beam at the top of the stairs.

Dishwasher:

This is between the kitchen and bathroom and dishwasher tablets are under the sink.  Please empty it prior to departure.

Dustbins:

Bins go early on a Thursday morning.  Please put all rubbish in black bin bags, tied firmly, in the grey bin in the courtyard, and all re-cycling in the two green boxes – paper and card in one, glass/tin/plastic & tetra packs in the other.

Smoking:

Our house is a no smoking house, so please smoke in the courtyard only. Thank you.

Music and TV:

There is a basic TV & video player and digibox & a CD/Radio in the sitting room. There is also a radio in the kitchen. As George Cottage is a semi-detached, end terrac cottage, for the sake of the neighbours, please don’t crank up the volume or open the windows to play music in the courtyard.

Courtyard Seating:

There is seating for 6 in the small courtyard, which gets the sun most of the day in summer. As the cottage courtyard seating area leads off the main access path for two other cottages, please respect the neighbours.  Please feel free to water the plants whilst you are staying, summer or winter and pick any of the herbs which are growing in pots!

Cottage Parking:

Being an old miners cottage at the back of a run of two other cottages, in a little courtyard island between other houses, access is via a dog-leg path behind the other cottages.  Parking is on the road immediately outside the arched entrance.

Dogs:

Dogs are allowed, though not upstairs, & definitely not on furniture. Any fouling or damage to furniture will be charged for. There are spare leads in the hall cupboard, & some dog towels & ‘blankets’ for them to lie on. The quickest & nearest place to exercise them is left out of the cottage, and left at the corner and then right through the churchyard and up onto the playing fields.  Please keep your dogs on a lead on the playing field itself, but there are woods immediately behind.

Bikes:

There are fifteen bike racks in the courtyard and an outdoor hosepipe for washing down boots and bikes.  And a large boot rack made from a piece of forest wood.  The courtyard is completely secure, has a high stone wall all around it and the entrance door has an internal bolt for security.

Kids:

There are plenty of things for kids in the house – lots of videos, games, hotwheels track, books, art stuff etc.

Maps:

There are plenty of local maps & guide books in  a display box on the sitting room window sill. The local library carries quite a lot of tourist information.

Library & Internet Access:

There is wifi access in the house – the network key is on the router in the dining room.

Booking Fee and Bond:

Please pay your booking fee, in full, in advance & confirm that you authorise payment to be taken for any damages or breakage from your security deposit of £100.00. Your booking is not considered confirmed until you have made full payment and authorisation.

Cleaning and Turnaround:

There is an allocation of 4 hours to turn the house around between guests – any additional time required to get the house ready for next guests or to wash and dry additional linen will be deducted from your security deposit at a rate of £20.00 per hour.
